Looking after your mental health through the pandemic.
The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may be stressful for everyone. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions to rise to the surface. The whole concept of social distancing may be wearing thin for you, and you may be eager to interact with others and get back to your routine. Even when you - and the world - are healthy, not having social interactions can hurt both your physical and mental wellbeing. To help you cope during this time, here are a few mental health tips.
Limit news consumption
It's easy to get overwhelmed with all the news and media about the virus. It's even easier to feel overwhelmed and depressed about the situation. To help protect your mental health, limit your exposure to the news and consider only checking social media once or twice a day. Remember to only follow trusted sources such as the CDC or WHO.
Keep in touch
To boost oxytocin, it's important to stay in touch with your support system. Communicate more openly and regularly FaceTime, call, or text your friends and family. While we may be feeling isolated, our loved ones may be feeling even lower. We need each other now more than ever.
Think healthy
Simple things like physical fitness, good food, hydration, and connecting with others help to maintain a positive mindset. While you're at home, don't wallow. Try to eat plenty of healthy food (fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds), stay active by taking online classes, and spend time in the sunshine.
Use psychological strategies to manage stress and stay positive
Try not to worry too much about the future - focus on what you can do and accept the things you cannot change. One way to do this is to keep a daily gratitude journal. You may also choose to download smartphone applications that deliver mindfulness and relaxation exercises.
With these tips, you can start to feel better during this time of uncertainty. If you're looking for personal or commercial insurance during this time,
